Orchid, Fighting Male Cancer

37,000 men will be diagnosed with a male-specific cancer this year;
each man a husband, father, son, brother, grandfather and friend.

Incidence of the uniquely male cancers; prostate, penile and testicular is growing yet sadly these cancers are too often overlooked for support.

Orchid is the only UK charity working for everyone affected by testicular, prostate or penile cancer. Established in 1996, Orchid is now recognised for its world-class research programmes devoted exclusively to improving treatment and diagnosis methods for the uniquely male cancers.

Every year we support thousands of male cancer patients and their families through our portfolio of publications and factsheets, a dedicated website, campaigns, events and our award winning DVD – “Know Your Balls - Check ‘Em Out”. Our network of leading researchers and health professionals also provide specialist information via email and the telephone.

Orchid-funded research aims to increase scientific understanding of prostate, penile and testicular cancer to benefit current and future generations of men affected by these diseases. Projects cover a range of key research issues including the use of genetic markers to predict the progression of cancer and the use of specific drugs to improve the success of existing treatments.

Orchid’s investment into high quality research projects is making a difference
to thousands of men and their families.

Educating and informing about prostate, penile and testicular cancer is vital to helping men and women to recognise symptoms associated with these diseases so that early diagnosis can be made. Our awareness campaigns and publications focus on promoting awareness to schools, communities, the workplace and healthcare professionals.

Supporting Orchid will help to save men’s lives and
preserve the quality of life for men and their families. For more information please visit our website at www.orchid-cancer.org.uk

Supporting the GB Row

Rebecca Porta, Chief Executive of Orchid:
“The boys have a huge undertaking ahead of them in rowing around the British Isles. We at Orchid offer them our full support and are delighted they have chosen to support male cancers. Male cancer affects over 37,000 men p.a. in the UK and in many cases the disease will have spread before diagnosis making it far harder to treat – men need to sit up and take notice of their health and awareness generated through such immense challenges can only help in our fight against male cancers. The funds raised through Nick, Will, Dave and Rob’s efforts will help in Orchid’s pioneering research into the causes, diagnosis and treatment of prostate, penile and testicular cancer. We wish them a safe – and speedy! – voyage.”
